PLEASE RELEASE ON CD AS WELL!!! March 6, 2010 Music2424 (Studio Ctiy, CA USA) Believe it or not, there are still people out there who absolutely prefer to buy their music on CD (complete w/ cover art, liner notes, etc.)... to not also have this work available for sale (along with WE ARE THE WORLD - HAITI and its group video) is a grave mistake!! Haiti can use all the help that it can get and this material should be available on all formats!! It can only mean more relief for the citizens of this struggling country. This should have been a "no-brainer".
Love is the healer!! February 5, 2010 Nse Ette (Lagos, Nigeria) Like the album title says, this collection comprises live recordings of songs performed at the telethon held to raise money to bring "hope to Haiti" after the horrific earthquake of last month. The sound quality is fantastic, most songs sound like studio recordings.
Some songs are re-recordings (usually acoustic) by the original artistes; a tender reading of "Halo" by Beyoncé (shorn of adornmets, this shines, with Coldplay's Chris Martin accompanying on piano), "Like a prayer" by Madonna (complete with choir), "A message 2000" by Coldplay (faster paced than the "X&Y" album version), and "Send Me an Angel" by Alicia Keys (actually a re-titled and fleshed-out version of "Prelude to a Kiss" from Keys' album "As I Am").
Others are covers; Stevie Wonder's "A Time to Love" segueing into a very soulful "Bridge Over Troubled Water", John Legend's stunning piano/mournful string reading of "Motherless Child", and Justin Timberlake trading verses and harmonising with Matt Morris on a tender "Hallelujah" featuring Charlie Sexton on guitar, truly awesome!!
The lone new song is the upbeat Hip Hop/Rock "Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)" by Jay-Z, Bono, The Edge & Rihanna, available in live and studio versions.
Other standouts include Sting's Jazz/Rock lyrically poignant "Driven to Tears", the Country/Folk "Breathless" by Taylor Swift (a cover of a Better Than Ezra song), "Let It Be" (featuring The Roots) by Jennifer Hudson, and the beautiful acoustic "Alone and Forsaken" by Dave Matthews & Neil Young.
There is really something for everyone on this collection. All for a great cause and reason enough to purchase the album, a collectors item.
Hope for Haiti songs February 3, 2010 Renato (Ecuador, South America) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I want to buy and download all songs from Hope for Haiti from Amazon.com, and I get very frustrated when I received the following message: "We are sorry...
We could not process your order. The sale of MP3 Downloads is currently available only to US customers located in the 48 contiguous states, Alaska, Hawaii, and the District of Columbia..."
I don't understand how can be possible that I can't buy it and only be available in the US, i am in Ecuador, South America.
Great and necessary but frustrating February 3, 2010 Malcolm H. Field (Japan) This is a must buy item, either video format or mp3 format. However, at times like this you'd think that "common sense" would prevail over zone barriers and people from anywhere in the world would be able to download the music - especially since it helps a desperate need. If these artists can so quickly give up their time and pull together, why can't the others in the music business do the same??? Come on Amazon lead the way!

Really glad its on Amazon MP3, because iTunes' garbage .m4a format is compatible with less devices. If I knew Amazon was getting it, I would have never bought the iTunes version.
