Trancey dancey tuneful mellowish March 9, 2010 Anniepoo (Indiana) I am not qualified to classify this music, but I shall try to describe it for those wondering whether or not to try it. I think Avant-Pop is a good description. They come labeled Alternative Rock; I changed most to Electronic Dance (my own 'genre'). If I had more, I think Avant Pop might be a good 'genre'. They are mostly melodious with interesting and different structures. Some tend to repeat themselves too much and become boring to me. Some are very nice to listen to. Some are challenging. All have something to offer and are worth giving a try to. Most are not 'songs' but are more like background medium-to-slow dance club electronic music - percussion, synthesizers, sampled vocals. A few are more like Alternative Rock with an electronic 'edge'. None feel angry or are unpleasant or harsh. I enjoyed hearing something new. Based on other recommendations, I downloaded Half Asleep first, and that one I like a lot - gave it 5 stars in my library. For me, Action/Reaction, Two Dots and My Radio were also more to my personal taste (and got 4 stars) than the rest (which got 3 stars), which mostly seemed a bit too repetitive (but would probably make good background music with an edge but without being too demanding of your attention).
Worth a listen March 8, 2010 KanyonKris (Utah USA) I'm a fan of electronic music and this sampler was a good find for me. I really like "Hyped-Up Plus Tax" and "Triple Chrome Dipped". Also good is "Half Asleep", "Swamp", "My Radio", and "Night Court".
I T-t-t-told you this is a great Indie freebie February 28, 2010 Bobby W. (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've perused many of the free Amazon compilations recently, but this is one of the ones I keep returning to. There's a lot of variety here and it's all good, but my favorite tracks include the wonderfully oversaturated sounding "The Shaded Forests" by Deastro, "Two Dots" by Lusine and "Swamp" by Midwest Product. If you like indie pop, this download will not disappoint. Thank you, Ghostly International and Amazon!
Single song worth the price February 26, 2010 J. Offenbach (N VA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Being a sucker for Indie music and free tastes, I downloaded this sampler. The single cut by School of Seven Bells is the only one I kept, however, and that's why this review gives the sampler 3 stars rather than one. I found myself deleting track by track and sure am glad that I did not simply batch delete the entire album because this final song is worth wading through the others. I wouldn't describe this one as techno pop. It has a nice ethereal feel and was very nice as background music while working.
Best free sampler yet! February 14, 2010 Swimming Rabbit 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
As someone else mentioned, the obvious stand-out is probably School of Seven Bells' best single, Half Asleep. If this is your kind of music, I guarantee you'll run over to buy their album, Alpinisms after hearing it (and this is a version only found on the deluxe album!). But the tracks by Lusine, Deastro, and Choir of Young Believers are also excellent. Definitely worth your time. Kudos to a certainly interesting label.
