This is one great album. R. L. Burnside is the perfect combination of blues and today's current music. A friend of mine made me listen to this in college and I'm glad he did. If you like hard, down and dirty Delta blues, then this is an album for you.

That's what this recording meshes! RL Burnside is a down home guitarist and vocalist but the producer is a scratching DJ. Their styles clash but its interesting, especially for $2.99. Another great Amazon Daily Deal.

As a fan of R.L. and a fan of mixing genres, this is high up on my list of Best of Both Worlds! People that don't "get" this release probably dogged 'Electric Mud' by Muddy Waters and didn't really understand Moby's 'Play' either. What's that old saying? If you have to ask...

I heard that this album generated the most hate mail for Fat Possum record than anything else they've put out. It's a shame that the "purists" couldn't see what this album really is: a gateway drug. I mean... a gateway to a genre of blues not often talked about. I knew about Delta Blues and Chicago Blues, etc., etc., but wasn't familiar with Hill Country Blues. I saw this album in a listening station at Lakeshore Record Exchange back when it first came out. Something about the cover enticed me to give it a listen, and I'm so glad I did. Up to that point, most of my blues exposure had been due to things like The Blues Brothers and other more mainstream exposure. I liked what I heard, but nothing had really grabbed me enough to go out and buy any, let alone really dig into it. But listening to this album... that was a real jolt of lightening. It seemed to mix all my favorite things about music. It got me to look further into Burnside, and liking what I heard, I bought all his albums, including the more traditional ones. This lead me to people like Junior Kimbrough, Son House, Robert Belfour, and others. I discovered a lot of "pure" blues that I wouldn't have if it weren't for this album. Sure, I love the influence of hip-hop and electronica on modern music, but it was the core of Burnside's music that really made this album grab hold of me.
