I've liked Christian Kane's music for sometime now and this is a pretty good collection to introduce new fans to it.
His voice is strong, a little dirty and twangy without being too much. The music is simple with a good beat.
I grew up on rock and roll, folk and classical, my husband grew up on country and he's pretty picky about country music. He doesn't mind it changing but as popular country gets further from it's roots, he moves more and more away from the genre and listens to more rock. This is one of the few albums that's come out in the last 10 years he actually likes. The lyrics are reminiscent of some of the better albums that came out in the 80s and early 90s,Christian's voice carries them well.
Whiskey in Mind, The House Rules and American Made are rocking country songs. The sort you might want to dance to in a bar. The House Rules is my favorite song on the album.
"It's a country music, a little soul, a rock and roll rodeo" in the chorus, The House Rules is boisterous and a lot of fun.
Let Me Go is a love song in almost a conversational style that's sweet, a little wistful and more than a little sad.
Making Circles is a crying in your beer, emotional sad song. It's explicit because of the use of one word, but the word works in context.
I'm very happy with this EP except for it being only 5 songs. I'd love to see a longer album from Christian Kane sometime in the near future.

I bought this when it was first released from itunes at 6.99 and it is well worth the price and amazon usually runs it for 3.99! I honestly would have payed 20 for these songs.
Let Me Go is one of the best songs I have ever heard.
Christians Voice is amazing.
There are no bad songs here.
So just buy it already? Trust me?

This EP shows up on Amazon searches as alt-country, but it's more alt-rock.
Chris Kane sounds like he's trying to work in the tradition of the Allman Brothers. Fine, but I find the songs decent, not great. They sound nothing like alt-country in the tradition of Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Ryan Bingham, or Jesse Dayton.
Just a tip for country fans.

I love Rock n Roll, but his Country style rocks! I can't believe he can kick ass, act great and sing. I can't wait until the rest of the album becomes available. Christian Kane Rocks his Country ass off!

As a big fan of Christian's who spent a lot of last summer traveling to Portland to hear and see him and the guys in the band play, I've been waiting a long, long time for this. I was so disappointed when the deal with Sony fell through and he had to find a new label...but honestly, if these five songs are the result, it was completely worth the wait.
The Sony stuff was so bland compared to this, which is so fully Christian's sound and taste and style that it's almost like being there.
I can not wait until he manages to finish the full album.
Can't wait for the next gig!
